The prisoner of war camp at Gloegoer was the successor of the camp in the Unie Kampong in Belawan. It was set up in the relief and transition camp built in 1913 for contract coolies employed by the Java Immigrants’ Bureau (JIB) of the General Society of Rubber planters on the East Coast of Sumatra (AVROS) near the main road and the railway to Belawan. It consisted of five large and three small family barracks (hongs, stone coolie barracks), an infirmary barracks, and several outbuildings surrounded by a high stone wall with glass shards. In June 1944 the last prisoners of war from the camp, 720 Dutch and British people, were taken on the Van Waerwijck to Padang to be put to work on the Pakanbaroe Railway. The ship was torpedoed, whereby 176 were killed. After the prisoners of war left the coolie barracks functioned as a women’s camp.

Until the end of July 1944, the relief and transition camp for contracted coolies from the Javanese Immigration Bureau (JIB) of the General Association of Rubber Planters of the East Coast of Sumatra (AVROS) near the main road and railway line to Belawan functioned as a prisoner of war camp. After the prisoners of war were transported to be put to work on the Pakanbaroe railway line, women and children from Camp Poelaubrajan E were housed there. The camp comprised five large and three smaller family barracks (hongs, coolie barracks), one infirmary barracks, and several outbuildings, surrounded by a high stone wall with glass shards. In the second half of July 1945, the camp was cleared and the internees taken to Aek Pamienke.
